Spirit Blitz
“The LORD does not look at the things man looks at.
Man looks at the outward appearance,
but the LORD looks at the heart.”
1 Samuel 16:7
With school fast approaching, what a great time of the year just to stop for a few moments and be reminded that God does not judge us on what brand clothing we wear; what we drive; or even how we smell, but on what is going on inside us.
Our God is constantly trying to plug into our spiritual motivation and growth, as opposed to what the kids in school or our co-workers see and sometimes, judge us on. As we shop for new clothes and new shoes this month, perhaps we could also put on our list to shop for the right attitude and prayer life to approach this school year.
Let us pray not only for the safety of our schools, but offer specific prayers that perhaps everyone could be just a little less judgmental. Maybe every day it will matter just a little less that someone is wearing Hollister or Buckle and just like the example of Jesus, we can look past the clothing and the hair styles and look into the heart. Who knows what we might find there? We may find a friend for life; another Christian who needs a friend; just a person struggling to find their way and their voice. Who knows how that attitude might carry over into the lives of our church and our community?
A new school year represents a fresh start and a new opportunity to be the best person and the best Christian that we can be. It is our chance to make the right choices and be the example which will draw others to the fellowship of St. Paul UMC.
I am excited about the new school year and the chance our youth will have to grow and learn not only in school, but through their church and the heart of its membership...
